A telecommunications client needed an application to accurately report performance statistics for all their cell sites. Their current system was inaccurate and unreliable. Since a large portion of their budget was spent on development and maintenance of their cellular network, they required a system that reliably reported cell site performance.

dymetrics, inc. evaluated the clients needs and proposed an On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) system that would provide them with the accuracy and flexibility to meet their needs. We designed and developed a web-based reporting system utilizing OLAP technology to monitor and report cell site performance.

The system generated hourly statistics for all technologies on every cell site within the company. Data collected included dropped calls, blocked calls, and site usage. We developed reporting tools producing critical metrics to help senior management evaluate their service areas and to help field technicians resolve problems with cell sites.

The system is comprised of six databases ranging in size from 10 to 300 gigabytes. It also used approximately 10 cubes to support reporting requirements.

This system has become the life line of our client’s Engineering Department, but it is also used by several other departments in the company. It is currently used to help the company budget capital expenditures; identify locations where new cell sites should be built; evaluate circuit utilization and performance metrics to tune cell sites and plan usage capacity; and to help structure billing rates and marketing campaigns.

dymetrics, inc. introduced OLAP technology to this client and the success of this application helped to spawn other OLAP based reporting systems that have helped the company better manage its business.
